Ashfords Solicitors lost to Doctors by 51 runs

Doctors           144 for 8

Ashfords         93 for 8

An early wicket for John Bendall (1-19) made little impression as Sam Powell (21) took the attack to the home side from the off.  Powell’s succession of well placed hits continued until he advanced down the wicket to Steve Walker and hit a sweetly timed shot to mid off.   A watchful innings from Justin Pepperell complemented a quickfire knock from Graham Fergusson (29, retired) and when Pepperell (17) was caught at the wicket of Simon Combe (2-17) Harry Lee and Alan Dunkley joined forces to keep the tempo rising.  The well-used Knightshayes pitch was variable in pace and bounce and Lee (19) was the unfortunate recipient of a ball form Tony Mason (1-33) that leapt off the pitch.  Dunkley (25) retired and there was time for a quintessential innings of 19 from David Gwynne Jones before he became one of three late victims for Walker (4-19).

J.Squire showed the left hander’s typical facility for leg side shots but a run out by Keith Powell and useful spells by Will Chandler and Peter Reed kept the scoring in check. Squire’s retirement on 26 was the cue for a fiendishly difficult spell of slow left arm bowling by Phil Barker (2-8) with able back up from Charles Macadam (2-27) and catchers Gwynne Jones and Fergusson.  Spirited resistance from Mason (19) and G.Sidlow (13) was of no avail as Lee (1-4) and Keith Powell (1-6) took more wickets and Pepperell finished the match with a run out off the final ball.
